Validated Dance Awarding Organisations

Dance Awarding Organisations are examining institutions offering graded and vocational graded qualifications in dance and musical-theatre.

Dance teachers who hold a teaching qualification from an awarding organisation may enter students for the examinations of that body.

CDET has two categories of membership for Awarding Organisations

Five Dance Awarding Organisations are validated (accredited) by the Council and are listed below

  • The British Ballet Organization (BBO)
  • British Theatre Dance Association
  • International Dance Teachers' Association
  • The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD)
  • The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD)

The British Ballet Organisation, British Theatre Dance Association, Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and the Royal Academy of Dance are also accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Agency (QCA).

Dance teachers that hold a Validated Dance Awarding Organisation qualification are eligible for the CDET Recognised School award. Schools that have gained the award hold relevant teaching qualifications and adhere to 9 professional requirements put in place by CDET. The directory of Recognised Schools can be found in Recognised Schools.

Teachers who are members of a Validated Awarding Organisation may be found in The UK Directory of Registered Dance Teachers; this directory makes up a comprehensive listing of dance teachers in the country.

Awarding Organisations may also have a directory of their own teachers who do not subscribe to the CDET directory. Please contact the Dance Awarding Organisations listed above for further information.
