Accreditation Procedures

Vocational dance and musical theatre schools wishing to apply for CDET accreditation should familiarise themselves with the following two documents which together describe the full accreditation process.

CDET also has a category of membership — Application for Membership Status (AMS) for vocational schools wishing to apply for full accreditation but currently not in a position to do so. In order to be considered for AMS a school would need to meet the following

AMS Initial Criteria

  • has been in unbroken operation for at least four years
  • has at least one full-time vocational training course of between two and four years duration focused towards training dancers for professional performance or teaching careers
(Full-time is equivalent to not less than 35 hours per week for 26 weeks or 900 hours per year)
  • is able to demonstrate clear aims and objectives related to the needs of the dance profession
  • has a clear and coherent management structure supported by documentary evidence to include a hierarchical map, full job descriptions of the senior management team and an emergency management risk assessment
