This year the Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET) sponsored a new Student of the Year Award.

The search to find the 2009 winner began with the Councils Accredited Vocational schools and Validated Awarding Organisations nominating students who then met for live auditions on the 24th of November 2009 at the British Ballet Organisation headquarters in London.

Dame Beryl Grey, Brenda Last, Mike Dixon (CCNDA) and Liz Dale (CDET) were the judges as the students performed one dance piece of their choice (twice) in any style or genre they chose and were judged by the overall quality of their performance.

The standard of performance was extremely high, the task of selecting a winner very difficult indeed. However a decision was made and Sam Chung from Tring Park School of the Performing Arts was the champion. Sam was presented with his award by Dame Monica Mason, the director of the Royal Ballet at the awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House on 21st January 2010. Our warmest congratulations to Sam.
